These massive mahogany chaises en cabriolet , with slightly hollow backrests have delicately carved urns and festoons as decoration. The chairs are upholstered with 'Fortuny'.
Chairmakers were not allowed to manufacture veneered furniture, this was only permitted by ebonists. The production of chairs was therefore a specialization, but in The Netherlands both crafts were executed in the same atelier. The carver and upholsterer were also participants in the production of a chair.
