A Louis XVI Pembroke Table

This elegant piece of furniture is a showcase of the developement in Dutch Neo-Classicism at the end of the the 18th century. Influences from the French Louis XVI style and the English Neo-Classicism of Robert Adam were combined to a very own style incorporating fruitwood veneers and geometric marquetterie.

The entrejambe between the legs are derrived from french tables, while the light proportions and hanging leafs are an English invention.
The high legs with faux-cannelures on which the table is raised and the marquetterie show the typical Dutch character of this wonderfull table which is so pure in style.
