In the 18th century such a bureau was denoted a comptoir-cabinet. The topbureau is an English furniture type developed around 1700 and soon became the vogue in The Netherlands where it was called 'Engels cantoor kabinet' . Besides its delicacy it was also a very practical furniture. These type of 'Mirrorcomptoires' , were popular until the third quarter of the 18th century, even longer than in England. Several bureaus of this type are in the collection of The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
The moulded cornice with a fine carved cresting with rocailles. The two doors both have mirrors in moulded panels. An interior with three shelves above three drawers. The bureau with sloping hinged fall front opening with behind it several shelves . In the double arched lower cabinet two very small drawers and three long drawers. Shaped apron, claw-and-ball feet.
