Ludwig Meyer, Arthistorical Archives, Munich, dd 4 Oct. 2012 attributed this painting to the Antwerp studios of Joos van Cleve (1475/95 - 1540/41) and studio Joachim Patinir (1475/80 - 1524).
According to Ludwig Meyer this is the centre part of a tryptich. In his opinion the landscape part was done by a painter that worked in Patinir's studio and the figures by someone in Joos van Cleve's studio. He thinks that this composition is amongst the very finest that ever came out of Antwerp School. The theme of the Adoration of the Magi presented an excellent opportunity to exhibit the colourful costumes of the foreign Magia and the wealth of their gifts.
