Designer Alexander McQueen Found Dead

Internationally renowned fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead in his London apartment after committing suicide. A statement given by the company founded by the British design innovator, age 40, has confirmed his death, saying "at this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family."

McQueen, a designer whose style characteristic often melded a punk, futuristic vision with a baroque sensibility, came to fame in the mid-1990s when he was appointed head designer at Givenchy, replacing John Galliano. A graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, he was a four-time recipient of Britain's designer of the year award and also a major presence in popular culture, designing outfits for Lady Gaga who wore his clothes in her music videos. From the likes of Lady Gaga and R&B diva Rihanna (another favourite client of McQueen’s) were other loyal and enthusiasts such as Prince Charles.

While police have yet to issue details about the circumstances of McQueen's death, British network Sky News has reported that he was found hanged in his home.
