HOSHINO KAYOKO (1949-)
Objet with Natural Glaze and Silver Pigment
Heisei era (1989-2019), 2015
The hand-built, pinched, and kneaded clay mixture sliced with wires and deeply striated, finished with foils of silver glaze, the base with an impressed artist's mark
Footnotes:
Hoshino views her practice as a 'dialogue' between artist and clay in which she uncovers a basic ceramic form, then processes the material to create dramatic shapes inspired by the landscapes around her hillside home. She fires her works in a reducing (oxygen-starved) atmosphere that produces subdued colors offset by droplets of her signature silver glaze.
