Babs Haenen, unica, ca. 1995, table piece from the Benno Premsela collection.

This unique porcelain table piece, called "Expanding Space" was made in memory of Benno Premsela. Premsela was an important figure in 20th-century design and a member of the gay community who actively campaigned for emancipation and tolerance.

The Dutch ceramicist Babs Haenen, who was a good friend of Premsela, made this piece as a memorial. Blue and white refer to the Netherlands and to water, pink to Premsela's favorite color and the design refers to Premsela's fabrics. The piece is signed. It was exhibited in 1998 in the Stedelijk Museum in the exhibition 'Babs Haenen. The Turbulent Vessel. Ceramics 1991-1998'.
