A very high quality nicely detailed 'Egyptian Revival' inspired pair of candlesticks surrounded with three spinx ladies heads. The subject of the decoration on these late 'Directoire' early 'Empire' candlesticks was very popular at this time, when many archaelogical discoveries were made in Egypt. The Egyptian look of many decorations on buildings, furniture, lightning etc dominated the western fashion in Europe considerably.
