born in The Hague in 1880, deceased in Laren in 1968, lived and worked in The Hague in 1918 and settled in Laren. Also worked in South Limburg, Zeeland, Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Leeuwarden, Giethoorn, Bruges, Paris and southern France. He was educated at the Hague Academy of Fine Arts. Van Schagen and painted watercolors in the first lines of the Hague School polder landscapes, village and city views, later he painted a more impressionistic style. He was a member of the Amsterdam artists Arti et Amicitiae Gooi and the Painters' Society. Van Schagen work in the Singer Museum in Laren in the Royal Collection.
