An extremely rare bronze ormolu Cartel, double signed Jean Baptiste Helye - Paris, France around 1770.
The clock is in an absolutely original condition.
The timepiece has a beautifully executed clockwork of 8 days,
Chevalier de Bethune escapement and a unique Grand Sonnerie striking built on three bells entirely on the backplate.
On the dial you can set the desired striking: Only quarters strike / full hour and quarter striking.
Furthermore, there are hands for 'faster / slower' and "strike / no strike", all in all a very rare Cartel.
The workshop of Jean Helye was located on Rue Neuve St Mederic.
The clockmaker is listed in the "Dictionnaire des Watches' of Tardy on page 294.
