An early English brass engraved Italian striking lantern clock, by John Pleydell, circa 1675

16-cm engraved chapter ring with Roman numerals, centre finely engraved with leaves and tulips signed John Pleydell Londini fecit, single iron hour hand and similarly engraved brass alarm disc, 30-hour iron and brass posted movement with verge escapement and short pendulum, alarm and countwheel Roman hour striking on a surmounting bell with turned finial, foliate pierced engraved front fret and similar plain frets to the sides, door to the sides, the whole suspended by hoop and spurs. By only cleaning the movement and leaving the case in its original condition, we were able to preserve the lovely antique character of this fine clock.
