A very imposing high quality bronze cast, fire guilded Empire mantel clock, of remarkable size with high quality details.

The theme of this amazing decorative object is the philosopher Horatius sitting on the ruins of Rome, including a fallen column and a horses head. He was a very important Roman philosopher.

He sits on a square block which is a clock, signed by Robin Aine the elder, clockmaker to the king.

The eight day ‘on count wheel’ striking movement with ‘silk thread’ suspension.
