The two wings originally were part of a triptych. The style of the painting, with the miniature execution of the scenes, the olive green background and the bright colours, point towards a provenance from a Moscow workshop and a dating in the late 16th or early 17th century. The gilded silver basma covering the borders between the scenes are original. The back of the two panels is covered with thick blackened leather.
