Southern Europe, probably Spanish. Late XVIIth. Century
A good pair of chestnut chairs with slightly slanted backrest with arched crest rail 'chapeau de gendarme', with turned bobbins on both corners. Padded seats. Raised on scrolled legs joint by 'H' form wavy stretchers called 'os de mouton' and raised front stretcher. The chairs are upholstered in fine woll tapestry with large foliate motifs. The backrest and seat are finished with fringes. The wood has a nice patina.
