Kasparus Karsen (1810–1896) was a renowned Dutch painter, best known for his evocative cityscapes and river views. He combined real architectural features and urban motifs from various cities he visited—such as those along the Rhine and Danube—with his imagination to produce an idealized, harmonious city scene.

His works frequently depict sunlit city streets, bustling squares, and riverside vistas, characterized by a romanticized atmosphere and meticulous attention to architectural detail.

Educated by his uncle, the city and landscape painter George Pieter Westenberg, and later trained at the Amsterdam academy, Karsen developed a distinctive style rooted in classical tradition but imbued with a sense of nostalgia and fantasy.
