Description
Meyer-Wiegand came from an artistic family: his father was a conductor and pianist, his mother a concert singer. He started painting early on, in the tradition of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Later inspired by the French impressionists Degas and Vuillard, he paints figures and creates portraits. In addition, his oeuvre displays a varied theme: (river) landscapes, harbors, park scenes, folk festivals and lively cityscapes, painted with a loose touch. Meyer-Wiegand painted a lot in Cologne and Düsseldorf, and made numerous study trips abroad. He stayed in Holland (around 1935), Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Spain and the United States.
