This is serious, and probably Louis XV-inspired, untouched English 19th-century mantel clock in the form of an elephant, dating back to circa 1870. The beautiful blue porcelain elephant provides a striking contrast with the high-quality, detailed Louis XV-style bronzes that adorn it, and carries the chain-driven timepiece movement on its back.
The lovely white enamel dial features blue numerals for the hours and black numerals for the minutes, with lovely gilded pierced hands.
The clock movement is mounted on a rose/pink decorated porcelain carpet, with some small gilded porcelain bells.
This clock is a rare and popular subject, suitable for modern interiors as well as collections. It measures 47 cm in height, 37 cm in width, and 19 cm in depth.
