Two interesting terracotta groups representing the Summer and the Winter (from a set of the Four Seasons). Each group is formed by two putti on a rocky base, the Summer is depicted with a sheaf of corn, between the two putti, one is sheltered by the other with a cloth against the sun. The winter is depicted by two putti making a wood fire, one is covered by a cloth against the cold.
Both small terracotta “bozzetti” are executed in a very lively and sketchy style, without any hesitation with indicates the hand of a master. On the back of the Summer group the signature C.MICHEL of Claude Michel (1738- 1814). His later works are mostly signed Clodion.
