A pair of French Louis XVI cassolettes made of fire-gilt bronze and marble, in the shape of vases. Each vase rests upon three Satyr’s heads, which extend into a curved leg terminating in a goat’s hoof standing upon the triangular marble base with slightly concave sides. The legs are held together mid-way by a turned ring, within which stands a fourth, twisting support. The cassolettes’ elegant appearance is further enhanced by the depending chains with tassels.
The constricted marble vase is closed with a separate lid, which is crowned with a knob in the shape of grapes and vine leaves.
