This furniture has a space that is closed by a lid and connected from inside with the coffin by two baluster carved hinges, engraved with a floral motif. The beautifully carved lock on the front has the shape of a crowned heart. The box has at the sides four brass handles with a open sawed back plate. The cover and the front are decorated with four large copper nails. The coffin is one of the most popular furniture in Asia and the Cape. The chest was placed on ball feet when he was placed as a the piece of furniture in the Dutch interior to serve as a clothes chest.
