Description

A rectangular calamander or “coromandel” box, hiding a secret drawer, with a gilt brass lock plate and handle on the lid. The wood came most probably from the Sri Lankan tree that yields coromandel ebony “Diospyros” and was used for many luxury pieces of small furniture and boxes like these.
