Description

A French gilt brass and enamel novelty clock of the 'bras en l’air' type, circa 1880. A female figure in an evening gown indicates the time with her arms against two curved enamel scales. She stands beneath an arch with pilasters and a sunburst, in front of a floral polychrome enamel panel. The eight-day, spring-driven movement is housed in the green marble base and regulated by a platform anchor escapement with a bimetallic balance. Gilded feet support the base. Height 42 cm; width 24.5 cm; depth 12 cm.
