Description

Elegant Empire pendulum in gilded and patinated bronze, inspired by François-René de Chateaubriand's Atala. The sculptural case shows Atala freeing Chactas, with tropical motifs, hunting trophies, and a relief on the base. The white enameled dial is signed à Paris and is framed by a richly decorated bronze structure. A characteristic and rare example of the early 19th-century French "au bon sauvage" mode, in which literature, exoticism, and decorative art come together.
