A colourful, romanticised imaginary still life showing flowers, insects and blue bird’s eggs in a nest, the whole placed within a tall vase on a marble plinth against a light grey background. The combination of flowers and bird’s eggs from spring, flowers, thistles and a poppy seed pod from summer, and acorns from autumn mean that this can only be an imaginary bouquet.

Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os was a student of his father, Jan van Os, the painter of floral still lifes and seascapes. In 1812 he participated in the Salon de Paris for the first time. In the following period he worked not only in Paris and Sèvres but also in Amsterdam and The Hague. In Sèvres he worked for the porcelain factory. He settled permanently in Paris after 1826, where he passed away in 1861. He is primarily known for his exceptional still lifes.
