Description
The dogma states that God consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, and that these three Persons (personae) can be distinguished but not separated, in other words, God is One.

Some theologians make a subdivision, a hierarchy between the three Persons of the Trinity. The 'Father' would then be the 'planner.' The 'Son' (=Christ) is the 'executor' of the plans. And the Holy Spirit is the 'power' with which these plans are carried out. These thoughts are remarkable in the sense that a theologian cannot take an "externalist position"; he cannot step outside of reality to study and describe his God from the outside. Therefore, in contemporary (scientific) theology, it is common to speak of God as a Trinity, to speak of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but not to make statements about their mutual relationships. In Latin: "opera ad intra divisa sunt, opera ad extra indivisa sunt": the actions are distinct for the persons within the Trinity, outwardly the actions are undivided, and can only be referred to as "the action of God." The reality of the relationships between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit can be described with the term Perichoresis.
