The griffin is a mythical animal that symbolically represents air and earth.
Beautiful fire-gilded bronze sculpture clock with white enamel dial, 8-day movement and ½ hour striking mechanism on a bell. Pendulum with wire suspension and a 'sunburst' pendulum lens.

The clock is decorated with two griffins, which is also called a gripping bird.
It is a mythical animal that symbolizes dominion over two realms: the earth (its lion's body) and the sky (the head and wings of an eagle).
The griffin comes from Greek mythology. The griffin was a popular decorative object in ancient times in many countries in the Middle East and along the Mediterranean, and is thought to have originated in the Levant, circa the second millennium BC.
Original gilding in excellent condition. HxWxD 39x18x10 cm.
