Description

A monumental French Louis XVI marble and ormolu portico mantel clock, signed Bianchi & Cie. A Paris, circa 1770. The enamel dial has Arabic numerals, a red date scale and gilt fleur-de-lis hands. The two-week, spring-driven movement has anchor escapement with a silk-suspended pendulum and strikes the hours and half hours on a bell. Classical columns support a curved marble platform with finely chased gilt bronze mounts, garlands and putti. A cartouche above the dial now holds a glass negative. Height 71 cm; width 46.5 cm; depth 19.5 cm.
