Description

23-cm square brass dial, engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals signed Jacob Gelijn Amsterdam, pierced blued hands, subsidiary for beatindication callibrated 1-45 and silvered alarm disc, apertures for day and date, cherub spandrels, 2 1/2-day plated weight driven movement with anchor escapement and countwheel striking on a bell, walnut veneered case with dome top surmounted by gilt wood ball finials, square glazed door and shaped apron, terminating in a rectangular trunk with plain annular lenticle.

Amsterdam wall clocks like this one are far more rare than Amsterdam longcase clocks. The clocks seem to have a connection with the English Hood Clocks. But with their plated movements, calendar work and well veneered cases the quality is ususally much higher.
