Description
An impressive pair of monumental George III candlesticks, crafted from richly cut crystal, in the style of William Parker, dating from the late 18th century.

The candlesticks rest on beautifully crafted natural stone bases, decorated at the front with a painted oval portrait medallion and flanked on either side by oval medallions featuring refined hand-painted depictions of putti.

The plinths support a richly ornamented crystal superstructure, comprising an elegant baluster-shaped central section, faceted obelisks and an abundance of dazzling cut crystal pendeloques, rosettes and garlands. Between the five gracefully curved candle arms rise pointed crystal ornaments, known as ‘pinnacles’ or ‘daggers’, which lend the monumental silhouette added allure.

This exceptionally rare pair is distinguished by the extraordinary richness of its crystal decoration, the refined cutting and the imposing architectural composition. A particularly decorative and rare ensemble that impressively reflects the grandeur and craftsmanship of the English George III period.
