Description

Enviroment of:
Ignaz Günther (1725-1775) was the foremost German Rococo sculptor
Johann Joseph Christian (1706–1777), a German Baroque sculptor and woodcarver.

Bareheaded and dressed in a coat with elaborately collar and cuffs, breeches and flat shoes, he is identified as a young man of the people. The dark pinned backwards curls framing his face and his pastel-coloured dress reflect the fashion of the period.
The expressive and sensitive soft body language, on bended knee and gazing with rapture heavenwards give the impression of devotion and ecstasy, perhaps a touch of melancholy.
