Description

A very classic Dutch ebonished 8-day striking bracket clock circa 1730, signed Steven Hoogendijk Rotterdam.

The beautifull ebonised case with caddy top and imposing gilded finials with lovely fret work on top, sides, front and back. The clock is mounted on gilded bun feet.

The very smart looking arched dial with silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic numbers for the minutes; in between the numbers lovely engravings with the "fleur de lys" design. In the top of the arch is the choice for slaan/niet slaan - this means strike or not strike, activated by turning the hand to the desired position. In the centre of the dial a small disk to set time for the alarm.

Very nice gilded sprandels on the dial. Lovely blue steeled pierced hands. The movement with an option of the "pull repeat" on six bells to enable hearing in the night the right time by pulling a string on the side of the clock. For the alarm you also have to pull the string on the other side.

In the centre of the main dial above the nr6 an aperture for the dates of the month . Under nr12 an aperture to see if the clock is running by checking the pendulum moving.The fusee spring driven movement with verge escapement and knife edge suspension.The backplate engraved with lovely floral design.
