Description

A French Empire brass keyhole skeleton clock, circa 1800, belonging to a small tradition from the French-Swiss border region. The open keyhole-shaped frame displays finely made wheelwork and stands on an oval Carrara marble base with flat circular feet.

The 17-cm enamel chapter ring has Arabic numerals, a brass bezel and fine blued-steel hands. The movement runs for at least a month and has pinwheel escapement with a pendulum. A countwheel controls half-hour striking on a bell. Remarkably, the small spring barrel driving the striking train is wound by the going train, forming a remontoir for the striking mechanism.

Height: 43 cm; width: 24 cm; depth: 11 cm.
