A French gilt brass Chinoiserie grande sonnerie travel clock, circa 1880. The silvered chapter ring has Oriental numerals and is signed for Bigelow, Kennard & Co. Boston. Patinated relief panels depict an Oriental landscape and figures. The eight-day movement, marked A*B for Achille Brocot, has platform lever escapement and grande or petite sonnerie striking on two gongs, with repetition on demand and a silence setting. The compact architectural case has a shaped handle, pilasters and a bevelled top glass revealing the escapement. Height 20 cm; width 11.6 cm; depth 9.6 cm.
