Description

An Austrian architectural Zappler mantel clock, circa 1840, in the form of an elaborate mother-of-pearl church. The central dome is surmounted by a spire and flanked by two lower towers. Superimposed pediments, columns and central steps create a carefully detailed architectural facade, standing on a curved base bordered with triangles.

The mother-of-pearl dial has Roman numerals and foliate pierced brass hands. The spring-driven movement runs for thirty hours and is regulated by tic-tac escapement with a short pendulum swinging in front of the dial. This rapid pendulum motion gives the Zappler its name.

Height: 25 cm; width: 12 cm; depth: 7.5 cm.
