Description

A South German miniature Sorg-type wall clock, circa 1840, with an alarm and no striking mechanism. Sorg is the name of the clock type; this example carries the unidentified monogram R.I.F. on the back.

The 4.7-cm enamel dial has Roman numerals, blued-steel hands and an engraved brass alarm disc. Its pressed-brass surround is decorated with leaves at the corners and two eagles on quivers in the arch. The weight-driven movement runs for one day and is regulated by anchor escapement and a pendulum. The alarm mechanism is mounted at the side.

The wooden case has side doors and hangs by a suspension hoop and spurs. Case dimensions: height 9.5 cm; width 6 cm; depth 6.5 cm.
